Animatronic, feathers, plexiglass, volcanic stone

Variable Dimensions

On the occasion of Alias, Romeo Gómez López presents a new production, an animatronic sculpture of a dinosaur who’s texture the artist has altered and enhanced by the artist. The mechatronic puppet of the prehistoric creature wanders and moves around a stone making reference to the giant asteroid that led to the extinction of dinosaurs millions of years ago. The artist thinks of the catastrophic meteorite that triggered tsunamis as a predecessor of Heteropiedra, or better yet, as the origin of Heteropiedra.

The cataclysmic collision obliterated the dinosaurs and the contemporary fantasy and adventure film industries have de-feathered the species. Romeo Gómez López observes the way in which patriarchal narratives and predominantly male-dominated, block-buster productions have omitted the fact that many dinosaurs possessed feathers, in order to make them look more frightening and monstrous, clouding the perception of mass audiences.
