Molcajete (Estúpidosaurio), 2022

Basalt, tortilla chips

18 x 33 x 12 cm | 7 x 8.6 x 4.7 in

The molcajete originated in Mesoamerica approximately 8000 years ago. They are frequently decorated with carved animal heads on the outer rim, which gives them the appearance of a short and stocky animal. On the other hand, the stegosaurus is a distinctive dinosaur for having the smallest brain in relation to its body size, but thanks to its bulk and its piercing spines it had the ability to defend itself and was a proliferating species in theLate Jurassic. However, it was because of the asteroid that crashed 65 million years ago in the Yucatan Peninsula, that these giants that walked the earth became extinct and mammals prevailed, as their small bodies consumed minimal energy and gave them the necessary advantage to survive a nuclear winter. This piece brings together what was, what has been and what is in Mexico, an ever-changing country, but with stone as a historical witness and the power to dominate it as an evolutionary advantage.
